Alstroemeria ‘Staprisara’ (Princess Sara Peruvian lily)

This is a cultivar of the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, a genus named for the Swedish baron Clas Alströmer, a close friend of Carolus Linnaeus, the guy who invented the Latin naming system. (Alstroemeria is pronounced al-stre-MEE-ree-uh.) These plants are South American natives, and very attractive.

Plants: Dense, mounding habit with fast growth ~1′ (30–38 cm) tall and wide.

Flowers: “Dark golden orange,” as described by one gardening site, “with a distinct pink and white throat.” Flowers appear from spring to fall. The patent description is a bit less, uh, flowery: “A new and distinct cultivar of Alstroemeria plant named Staprisara, characterized by its compact and uniform plant growth habit; freely branching habit; freely flowering habit; and yellow and red purple bi-colored flowers with dark purple-colored spots and stripes.”
