Woolly torch
Woolly torch cactus is found in northwestern Argentina, Peru, Urugay and northeastern Bolivia. It is not found in North America.
Plants: Plants are shrublike, up to 3′ (1 m) high. Erect stems are 1½–2″ (4–6 cm) in diameter, with about 20 ribs. Three brown to yellowish central spines are up to 1″ (3 cm) long. In addition, there are 20-30 fine whitish spines of varying length.
Flowers: Purplish pink, 1¼–1½″ (3.5–4 cm) long.
Fruits: Round light greenish to brick-red fruits are up to ⅜″ (1 cm) around, with white flesh. The fruits ripen to yellow, and contain black seeds.
Habitats: Gritty, lean, rocky, well-drained soil.
