Cladonia rei Schaerer

Wand lichen, cup lichen, sordid powderhorn

Wand lichen is present in virtually all temperate climates worldwide.

Identification: Fruticose stalks (podetia) are grayish-green, rough-surfaced, somewhat curved, and typically pointed on top. They look rough and dirty because they are coated with powdery looking reproductive structures called soredia. Tops of some are cup-shaped, with brown proliferations.

Habitats: Atop soil, clay, humus, turf, detritus, and dead leaves.
